The Color of Fall is a stunning portrait view, photographed in New Hampshire during the fall season. Lit by soft evening sun and making use of long exposure technique, it is a strikingly contrasting image. The water below is soft and ghostly, drawing the eye gently to the jagged shapes of the criss-crossing deadwood. The wood is slick with water and the first early fall leaves are pasted onto them like delicate gilding.
New Hampshire is one of the best locations you could choose for viewing the voracious colors of fall, with long winding roads up to the White Mountains that give you views for miles around of the glittering foliage.
This image is slightly unusual in that it’s taken vertically. A landscape shot would emphasize space and a natural viewpoint of the human eye, but a portrait view instead creates a more closed off and intimate image. Instead of placing the river in context, the directionality of the water is placed front and center. The image is composed around the route the water takes to the bottom, which is broken up and abstracted with the lattice of fallen wood. The picture is cool and refreshing, and the criss-crossed river acts almost as a display case for the contrasting golden leaves that settle there.
The photograph was taken in a crowded place, but still manages to hone in on a part that suggests total escape from busy human lives. Instead of creating a landscape, this image examines the minutia of life and the joy we find in the little things right at our feet. It’s a tapestry of simple pleasures, and it tempts us to step through it so we might examine it’s treasures for ourselves. For those that find joy in fall and the carefree nature of exploring the natural world, this would be a fantastic print. It reminds us to stop for a moment and look for the small things we might have missed.

River Stone Satin Rag
River Stone Rag 350 GSM is an optical brightener free (no OBAs) and has a very pleasing and neutral white point thanks to the high quality 100% cotton base. Mounting
Prints are face-mounted onto clear acrylic, finished with a 1/8” black Sintra® adhered to the back.

All HD Acrylic printed photos come with a sustainable natural birch wood wall mount. The frame is 3/4” deep, which makes photos appear to be floating off the wall.
